‘TIS THE SEASON TO PERK UP THE KITCHEN WITH ORGANIC ACCENTS FROM THE GARDEN

By Karen Kirk

August 2023

Organic design, pioneered by architect Frank Lloyd Wright whose philosophy was to create harmony between people and nature in his architectural designs, continues to sustain its popularity in today’s modern homes. It’s a design approach that places emphasis on utilizing natural materials, greenery, sustainable textiles, and warming colours in interior spaces.

What I love about organic design style is that anyone can access, afford and create this fresh style instantly in their home. Plucked from nature, living plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables are the key organic decor elements that are, right now, at their peak in our gardens and readily available at local farmers’ markets.

Take inspiration from these stunning kitchens to create fresh and vibrant organic style in your kitchen without breaking the bank.

1. A simple branch with colourful foliage, fruit and veggies from the garden add a sunlit dramatic touch that costs only the time it took to pick them. Until it’s time to add these natural elements to a favourite summer recipe they decorate this moody dark kitchen accented by a ray of natural light. 2. A beautiful kitchen bathed in natural light will always capture your attention. Designed by Terra Cotta Design Build, this bright modern kitchen hits all the organic design notes with the finishing touch of a sculptural black vase with clippings from the garden that draws the eye and adds warmth to the space. Navy blue stools ground the space and complete the calm and inviting ambiance of this nature-inspired kitchen.

3. Elevate your organic design style with inspiration from one of my favourite Instagram Designers, Steve Cordony. A picture is worth a thousand words and this one speaks volumes on how a large bouquet of pink flowers arranged in a unique vessel can make a stunning organic design statement in the kitchen.

4. It really doesn’t matter whether you are a minimalist, or a maximalist when it comes to interior design, organic style fits seamlessly into any decor. Even the simplest touches of greenery and flower garden cuttings added fresh every few days will add warmth and charm to the kitchen. Featured Thermador appliance; Thermador range
