EASY FESTIVE HOLIDAY DECOR FOR EVERY KITCHEN STYLE

By Karen Kirk

December 2023

It’s tradition to decorate our homes for the holidays and, for me, it’s my favourite time of the year to add festive touches to every room in my house. But I have to admit, my creativity is challenged when it comes to adding a holiday touch to the kitchen. It’s such a busy room from November to January with non-stop holiday baking, crafting, meal prep for family and friends, that thinking about decorating the space is the last thing on my mind.

As it turns out, just in time for the guests to arrive and the festivities to begin, I always seem to find time to create a warm and inviting holiday feel in the kitchen with simple touches that don’t require a lot of fuss or inhibit the natural flow in the space when filled with family and friends.

Once again, it’s time to crank up the Christmas carols, grab your favourite beverage and scroll through a few festive ideas from Designer Jackie Glass and friends.

1.

Designer Jackie Glass dressed her quartz countertops with large white vases filled with fresh red Amaryllis flowers she mixed with evergreen boughs foraged on her country property for a dramatic Christmas floral touch. In front of a stunning marble herringbone backsplash, a red cast iron enamel pot sits on her Thermador induction cooktop with chimney ventilation.

2.

A small faux Christmas tree can add a touch of holiday cheer to a peninsula, countertop or island without sacrificing too much work surface. Jackie Glass chose a prelit flocked tree to create a bit of twinkle to her beverage station that features a Thermador wine fridge (not shown) and Star Sapphire® dishwasher.

3.

When entertaining, use unique serving pieces and decorative items to serve up appetizers and drinks. Jackie Glass displayed her Christmas cookies, seasonal fruit and florals on the island using hand-crafted wooden pieces by friend, woodturner Brian Parrott for her Christmas day gathering.

4.

In a quiet corner of the kitchen, Jackie’s guests and pets often keep her company perched on the window seat decorated with a cosy red throw, cushion and other holiday accents.

5.

Set up for cosy holiday wine tastings with guests, Jackie’s wine room features storage that includes a Thermador undercounter wine fridge by a rustic tasting table simply dressed for the season with a large frosted pine cone and fragrant evergreen boughs.

6.

These lacey ceramic gingerbread houses from Pottery Barn will light up any corner of the kitchen when accented with seasonal florals and your best-baked iced gingerbread Christmas tree.

7.

Set a traditional holiday kitchen table or island for informal holiday meals with Christmas red table linens accented with green dishes and fresh or faux florals. Add the sparkle with clear glassware and drama with black cutlery.
