Ambient Lighting establishes the overall mood and ensures a well-lit environment for daily tasks. Available in a variety of styles and finishes, pendant lights and chandeliers will set the tone and define the style for the space. Pots lights are a good choice for overall lighting. Set ambient lighting on dimmers for optional brightness and consider energy-saving LED bulbs that will provide a soft and consistent glow.

Task Lighting focuses light on specific work zones such as countertops, sinks and stove, illuminating tasks like meal prep, baking and cooking. LED under-cabinet lighting provides additional visibility when chopping and mixing on the countertops. A wall sconce over the sink or range offers attractive task lighting options. Incorporate motion sensors into your task lighting to add modern convenience and energy efficiency to your kitchen.

Accent Lighting elevates your kitchen's aesthetics and creates a sense of depth. Use this type of lighting as decorative elements to brighten a dark corner, highlight architectural features, and focal points such as a statement backsplash or cabinetry detail.

Natural Lighting is a bonus light source in any kitchen. Whenever possible try to incorporate windows, skylights or glass patio doors into your kitchen design to capture sunlight that will bathe your kitchen in natural light to create a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. If necessary, a light window treatment will help control the amount of sunlight to avoid unwanted heat or cause fading of fabrics and furniture. A window also provides fresh air when needed.

Lighting shouldn’t be an afterthought – it's an integral part of your kitchen design that deserves careful consideration and planning, each type of lighting complements the others, contributing to a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and efficient kitchen space that perfectly suits your lifestyle and design preferences.
